Because, this password related thing is comes from the server side. Further, we would like to suggest you that kindly clear your credential from window credential manager with associated Outlook accounts, after that try to identify the issue.

Thanks for your feedback. Thanks Darpan. I had hoped that password prompt would appear, but it hasn't, even after closing Outlook nd re-opening it. The reason I put my question in this forum is that I have both that personal hotmail account as well as using for business through the university I work for so emails to my hotmail address are received in my Outlook along with mail from the university in a different profile. I tried to reset the online password back to the earlier one that had worked, but it won't let me because I have previously used that password.
In the right pane, enter a new password in the Password box. Close the Accounts window. Outlook will save the password automatically. Need more help? Join the discussion.
